A developing story from Thunder Bay: Police service in Thunder Bay have charged six young people between the ages of 14 and 17 with assault following bear spray attacks that sent one victim to hospital.
Officers responded to the Victoria Avenue East area just before 9:30 p. on June 29 after receiving reports of individuals using bear spray. When they arrived on scene, two victims were located and received treatment from emergency services.
One individual was transported to a community hospital for further treatment. The suspects had left the scene before officers arrived, but a search of the area led to the arrests of all six teenage suspects. Among those charged were two aged 14, one aged 15, one aged 16, and two aged 17, all from Thunder Bay.
Each of the six accused has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon. In addition, one of the 17-year-olds faces charges of pointing a firearm and failing to comply with an undertaking. The 14, 15, and 16-year-old suspects were also charged with failing to comply with a release order.
One of the 17-year-old suspects was released from custody with a future court date. The remaining accused were remanded into custody following their first court appearances. The inquiry continues as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
