The northwestern Ontario community is abuzz with news that Six people are facing charges following an probe by Thunder Bay authorities that led to the seizure of about $300,000 in illicit drugs.
Officers advised Effort Rave focused on medicine trafficking in Thunder Bay's north core area. "On July 16, 2026, members of the Thunder Bay Officers Service Intelligence Unit and Crisis Task Unit, with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Authorities Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau [and] Nishnawbe Aski Law enforcement Service, executed five search warrants at locations throughout the Urban centre of the Lakehead region," Thunder Bay law enforcement acting Insp. Shawn Harrison declared at a media conference on Friday.
Harrison indicated the drugs seized include quantities of suspected cocaine and crystal methamphetamine, as well as Percocet tablets. Four of the accused are from Thunder Bay, while the other two are from elsewhere, but are residing in the community, officers indicated. All have appeared in court, with two being remanded into custody, and the rest released pending future court appearances. "One of our responsibilities as a service is to explore every investment opportunity there is," deputy authorities chief Jeremy Pearson indicated. "When we have a focused review identified, or general resources in terms of some of the provincial grants that are available, and some of the various financing programs that allow us to expand our intelligence capacity in order to identify projects that we can then undertake." "Both streams are substantial, both generalized financial support as well as undertaking specific resources when we've identified a specific avenue of probe and associated costs to that."
