A developing story from Thunder Bay: Six people are facing charges following an probe by the city authorities that led to the seizure of about $300,000 in illicit drugs.
Authorities shared Undertaking Rave focused on medicine trafficking in the city's north core area. "On July 16, 2026, members of the Thunder Bay Officers Service Intelligence Unit and Urgent situation Task Unit, with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Law enforcement Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau [and] Nishnawbe Aski Authorities Service, executed five search warrants at locations throughout the Municipality of the Lakehead region," the northwestern Ontario hub officers acting Insp. Shawn Harrison shared at a media conference on Friday.
Harrison remarked the drugs seized include quantities of suspected cocaine and crystal methamphetamine, as well as Percocet tablets. Four of the accused are from Thunder Bay, while the other two are from elsewhere, but are residing in the community, authorities remarked. All have appeared in court, with two being remanded into custody, and the rest released pending future court appearances. "One of our responsibilities as a service is to explore every resources opportunity there is," deputy officers chief Jeremy Pearson noted. "When we have a focused probe identified, or general financing in terms of some of the provincial grants that are available, and some of the various resources programs that allow us to expand our intelligence capacity in order to identify projects that we can then undertake." "Both streams are significant, both generalized investment as well as undertaking specific financing when we've identified a specific avenue of review and associated costs to that."
