Thunder Bay, Ontario — Six people are facing charges following an examination by the Lakehead region law enforcement that led to the seizure of about $300,000 in illicit drugs.
Law enforcement declared Program Rave focused on pharmaceutical trafficking in Thunder Bay's north core area. "On July 16, 2026, members of the Thunder Bay Law enforcement Service Intelligence Unit and Crisis Task Unit, with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Officers Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau [and] Nishnawbe Aski Authorities Service, executed five search warrants at locations throughout the Lakehead of the Lakehead," the Lakehead law enforcement acting Insp. Shawn Harrison indicated at a media conference on Friday.
Harrison noted the drugs seized include quantities of suspected cocaine and crystal methamphetamine, as well as Percocet tablets. Four of the accused are from the Lakehead region, while the other two are from elsewhere, but are residing in the urban centre, officers shared. All have appeared in court, with two being remanded into custody, and the rest released pending future court appearances. "One of our responsibilities as a service is to explore every investment opportunity there is," deputy authorities chief Jeremy Pearson remarked. "When we have a focused review identified, or general financing in terms of some of the provincial grants that are available, and some of the various financial support programs that allow us to expand our intelligence capacity in order to identify projects that we can then undertake." "Both streams are critical, both generalized financing as well as campaign specific resources when we've identified a specific avenue of probe and associated costs to that."
