The northwestern Ontario community is abuzz with news that Six people are facing charges following an review by Thunder Bay authorities that led to the seizure of about $300,000 in illicit drugs.
Law enforcement indicated Initiative Rave focused on medicine trafficking in Thunder Bay's north core area. "On July 16, 2026, members of the Thunder Bay Law enforcement Service Intelligence Unit and Critical incident Task Unit, with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Officers Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau [and] Nishnawbe Aski Officers Service, executed five search warrants at locations throughout the Community of Thunder Bay," Thunder Bay officers acting Insp. Shawn Harrison indicated at a media conference on Friday.
Harrison remarked the drugs seized include quantities of suspected cocaine and crystal methamphetamine, as well as Percocet tablets. Four of the accused are from Thunder Bay, while the other two are from elsewhere, but are residing in the community, authorities advised. All have appeared in court, with two being remanded into custody, and the rest released pending future court appearances. "One of our responsibilities as a service is to explore every investment opportunity there is," deputy officers chief Jeremy Pearson declared. "When we have a focused examination identified, or general financing in terms of some of the provincial grants that are available, and some of the various financing programs that allow us to expand our intelligence capacity in order to identify projects that we can then undertake." "Both streams are critical, both generalized investment as well as effort specific investment when we've identified a specific avenue of review and associated costs to that."
