A tragic incident occurred in Thunder Bay last Friday afternoon when a 34-year-old local man was fatally struck by a train near the intersection of South Water Street and Pearl Street, according to the Thunder Bay Police Service.
Officers from the Thunder Bay Police Service, including members of the Primary Response Unit, were dispatched to the scene following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a train. Upon arrival, emergency personnel located the man and pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Forensic investigation teams are now working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the collision. Police officials have stated that no further information is being released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
“This is a deeply saddening incident for our community. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim as they navigate this difficult time,” a police spokesperson stated.
Local safety advocates are reminding residents to remain vigilant near railway tracks and crossings throughout Thunder Bay. Railway safety officials advise pedestrians to always use designated crossings, avoid wearing headphones when near tracks, and never walk on or alongside railway lines.
