Delegates from Thunder Bay, including Mayor Ken Boschoff, had at least nine meetings planned to discuss infrastructure needs and environmental concerns facing the region. The conference provides a dedicated forum for rural municipalities to address challenges specific to their communities.
CONSERVATION AUTHORITY CONSOLIDATION
Consolidation of provincial conservation authorities emerged as a significant topic of discussion. The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority has previously expressed opposition to amalgamation plans announced in November, citing its unique location and service region.
LRCA Chair Donna Blunt stated that the authority believes it should not be combined with conservation authorities lacking watershed or municipal connections to the region.
INFRASTRUCTURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS
City Manager John Collins indicated that the delegation focused on highlighting infrastructure requirements and environmental issues specific to Thunder Bay and surrounding areas. The conference wrapped up on Tuesday following productive discussions with provincial leadership.
