Major progress is being made on the Highway 11/17 twinning project between Thunder Bay and Nipigon. The Ontario government has awarded a significant contract to expand the corridor from two to four lanes.
107 MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT ANNOUNCED
The contract, valued at $107 million, includes $77 million in provincial funding and $30 million from the federal government. Terranorth Construction and Engineering has been selected to complete another major segment of the highway twinning project starting from Highway 587.
ECONOMIC IMPACT AND JOB CREATION
This infrastructure project is expected to create or sustain approximately 750 direct and indirect construction jobs. The work represents a significant investment in Northern Ontario infrastructure.
COMPLETION TARGET
Terranorth will begin construction work in fall, with completion targeted for 2026. When finished, more than 70 percent of the stretch between Thunder Bay and Nipigon will be twinned, significantly improving safety and transportation efficiency.
