Alberta’s Kevin Koe has gotten off to a flying start at the Montana’s Brier in St. John’s, Newfoundland, despite admitting to what he called “weird” preparation in the lead-up to the national curling championship.
Koe, one of Canada’s most accomplished curlers with multiple Brier titles to his name, showed his class on the ice as Alberta posted early victories against tough competition. The team’s precision and communication were evident from the first draw.
“The preparation felt different this time around, but once you’re on the ice, it all feels the same,” Koe said. “The rocks don’t know what you did to get ready.”
The Alberta rink has been working on some technical adjustments to their delivery and sweeping, and the early results suggest those changes are paying off. Koe’s experience on the national stage has given his team a calming presence that younger rinks struggle to match.
The Montana’s Brier features the top 18 curling teams from across Canada competing for the national championship and the right to represent Canada at the World Curling Championship.
