Thunder Bay Lakehead University Launches New Indigenous Leadership Program

Lakehead University in Thunder Bay has launched a new Indigenous Leadership Program aimed at supporting First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students in pursuing leadership roles within their communities and beyond.

The innovative program was developed in close consultation with Indigenous communities across Northwestern Ontario, ensuring the curriculum reflects the needs and aspirations of Indigenous peoples in the region.

“This program represents our commitment to Indigenous education and empowerment,” said a university spokesperson. “We believe it will create meaningful pathways for Indigenous students to become leaders in their fields.”

The program will offer workshops, mentorship opportunities, and cultural programming alongside academic coursework. Applications are now open for the upcoming academic year.

Community leaders have praised the initiative as a significant step toward reconciliation and Indigenous representation in higher education.
