The City of Thunder Bay says the new Waterfront Transit Terminal is now expected to open mid- to late April 2026, with supply chain delays cited as the primary reason for the extended timeline. While interior work on the facility is largely complete, outstanding exterior materials and finishing elements have not yet arrived. City officials say additional time will be needed once deliveries are received to complete installation and conduct final safety inspections before the terminal can open to the public. “We acknowledge that this project has taken longer than anticipated, and we recognize the impact this has had on transit riders,” said Bobbi Tait, Supervisor of Capital Facility Construction. The City says it will continue to maintain safe and accessible temporary transit operations at the site, including snow clearing and shelter maintenance, until the new terminal opens. The completed facility is still expected to welcome riders this spring.
